In 1981 I committed myself to a life of art. For the next 25 years I was developing myself as an artist, studying art history, the old masters and modern and contemporary art. I was reading books and magazines on the subject, traveling to museums in America and Europe, going to drawing workshops three times a week, and joining and being active in as many arts organizations as possible.

During that time, I reinvented myself a hundred times constantly searching for my creative voice. I was confronted with relentless creative obstacles and failure after failure. Not one person believed that I would succeed as a professional artist except me. I knew that persistence and love for the process and the hope of eventual success would keep me moving forward. I knew that being an artist wasn’t something that I would try for five or ten years. Being an artist is a lifetime commitment. I never gave up and believed in myself. I will never retire because I love the work I do.

In 2005 I finally found my creative voice. One of my sculptures sold in a group show at a Lois Lambert Gallery in Santa Monica. I asked her if she would give me a show and told me I wasn’t ready. In my experience, this was a typical response, so I moved on and started exhibiting my work at art fairs, festivals, galleries museums, online and through word of mouth.

I am mostly known for making Infinity Rings. There are scores of online articles, and YouTubes about my work.

Statement of Work

Artist Statement:

Working title of proposed sculpture is, “Point of El Paseo” Corten steel, 236” x 24” x 24″ . This sculpture was completed in 2023. I call it a Miracle Tower, and have been developing them in my studio for about three years. I call them Miracle Towers because they give me the sense of the miracle of flight and elevation. All the angles are designed to be moving upward. Each of the four sides of the sculpture is a triangle, so they are technically pyramids and have pyramid energy. Pyramid energy is strength and balance. This attached sculpture, “Point of El Paseo” is nearly 20 tall and 2 feet wide but only 4” at the bottom so it is perfectly balanced on its thinnest side. The nature of pyramid energy is that it is anchored into the ground and goes from the core of the earth to the heavens. Two sides of this sculpture are wide at the bottom and thin at the top and two sides are wide at the top and thin at the bottom. No two Miracle towers will be exactly alike.

The vertical sentry-like nature of the sculpture has a protective male quality, but the surface patina is very fluid, organic and female, so it has the perfect cosmological balance of male and female, yin-yang.

Miracle Towers do not take up a lot of real estate, but they fill a vertical void with grace, elegance, and beauty. The forms are minimalist, conceptual, and inspired by sacred geometry. No complex math is used, just a ruler and basic arithmetic. Sacred geometry is mostly intuitive. The work is inspired by a lifelong study of ancient civilizations, world cultures and religions and everything beautiful.

“Point of El Paseo” is welded, 11-gauge Corten steel with gussets inside the sculpture and outside for added support and safety. The oxidation of Corten steel protects the surface of the steel so it needs little if any upkeep. If ongoing care of outdoor sculpture is an issue, then Corten, also called Weathering steel is ideal. The quality of Corten is so good that bridges are now made from it.
